About the Book

After the Johnson family learns the youngest daughter is pregnant and unwed, they devise an elaborate plan to keep it a secret from the outside world. Part of that plan includes a lavish lie which is designed to make the scheme seem more believable. Once the child was born, however, this lie would not only come true, but change the lives of every member of the family. A story about an unwed mother, sibling rivalry, dark family secrets and a visit from an angel.

Behind the Story

When my grandfather died in the fifties, there was a fight within the family about the way the estate would be divided up. Animosity flared among family members and secrets, some closely guarded for more than forty years, began to surface. One of these secrets was the story of an abortion my aunt had when she was a teenager. This story grew out of that incident.

“Perfect Read! This was the perfect read for a rainy afternoon. Once I started this quirky little tale, I was drawn into the lives of these people and couldn’t wait to see how it would all turn out. It was very interesting and unique and the author’s style of writing kept the plot moving quickly, compelling you to turn the pages. I’d definitely read more by this author. If you’re looking for something interesting to read over a lunch hour or two, you won’t go wrong with this one.” - DTChantel, Amazon reviewer

“Just blew me away! Wow, when I first started reading the story, I thought this was a charming “slice of life” of the southern, rural fifties. I was enjoying it and prepared to be charmed, reading about a bygone era. Then, wham, the story took a whole other turn and just blew me away! I absolutely do not want to give anything away, so, by golly, I won’t! I will say, however, that I absolutely loved the story, despite a few tears, and think it was just brilliant. In fact, I love how it unfolded and Shirley Temple Johnson is now one of my favorite characters, although I really like mama and Cornpone...Five stars all the way!” PAA, Amazon reviewer

“Deep thoughts! Loved the story from the beginning to the end, read nonstop. Made me have deep thoughts about life, family and relationships.” - Sheila Smith, Kindle customer
